A Very 1st Day! (Slovenia Stories #1)

Črenšovci - Friday, 31st June 2015

Finally arrived!
We’re arrived at Vienna (VIE) Airport safely woohooo! After a long flight and journey (12 hours layover in Amsterdam), I finally touch my foot down on Vienna’s Airport around 11 p.m. Then we waited for GoOpti - a Slovenia-based road passenger transportation, to pick us up. Around 12 p.m the car came and picked us up along with other passengers who booked it as well. Then they dropped passengers one by one or group by group correspond to their own destinations. I chose Maribor Main Bus Station as destination in accordance with our arrangement with Tomaz before and then within 3 hours, I was dropped there. Next, I just needed to wait for Tomaž to pick me up at 8 in the morning. I decided to wait inside the bus station. It was soooo cold back then because there’s one door remains open (as Indonesian I’ve never felt as cold as that L). I tried to relax and survive at the same time. About 8 a.m in the middle of sleepy feeling, someone poked my shoulder from behind and said, “Elsa? Yusran?”. I turned my shoulder around and saw that’s the one who supposed to pick us up. Oh, it’s Tomaž! Hoorayyy… \('O')/
Waiting since from so early in the morning :p
The giant clock and the door that keeps open

Soon, Yusran and I moved our suitcases into his car trunk then we headed to the company. During the trip we got acquainted in no time and he explained that we would stay in Roman’s place because student apartment as the place we supposed to live is full. Oh, okay… Eh hold on… Wait whaaat?
What I know, Roman is the director of Ocean Orchids then it means we’ll stay at the director’s house?  I mean the real director as if the highest position in Ocean Orchids board? The Owner? Oh my… :O I just barely knew that time. So, here’s the plan. We would be brought to the company to look around and got brief direction and then met Roman and after that headed to Roman’s house to put our butts down :p. When walking around the greenhouse, I was given a chance to try to move the sliding table which was pretty interesting to me. I also had the chance to see the “Tropski Vrt” which is Ocean Orchids' beautiful and exotic tropical garden (Tropski Vrt = Tropical Garden in Slovene). At the end, Tomaž told us to don’t forget to drink a lot since it was summer to prevent us from dehydration. Not only that, he also told us that we may have some difficulties since the employee speak less English and I was like, “Ohh that’s okay. Not a problem.  I’m not an English native speaker though.” (I just hadn’t realized that would be a big problem later on. Huge even :’D). Before leaving, Tomaž gave brief explanation about 'who we are'. He said, "Yusran doesn't eat pork cause he's moslem but Elsa's christian so she may eat it. Elsa doesn't drink alcohol but Yusran does. So, there's a 'hope'." (Feels like I wanna sing 'What do you mean? Oohhh~ when you said there's a

Skip to when we were at Roman’s place. Roman lives in Črenšovci together with his girlfriend, Milena. Yep! A girlfriend (another surpriseeee :D). As you all may know it’s not a common thing in Indonesia. Hehe :p Even it’s considered as taboo. Personally, I don’t have problem with that. To me, what matters is someone’s personality not their lifestyle, political view or their religion. Because further you’ll learn you really can’t judge people only by those stuffs. Yet I admitted it felt kind of awkward at first (coupled with stay at the director’s house :O) but eventually we got along quickly. Soon after arriving at home, he showed us around the house, told us what is where (which I couldn’t remember at all. Gosh, so many kitchen utensils there >o<), and gave us spare key. There was one funny thing when he showed us bedrooms. He said, “I put you in separate bedrooms because I assume you can’t sleep together at the same room” (and in my mind I was like ‘Definitely nooo. Otherwise, my parents would kill me’ LOL! :p). Then we had the chance to shower (ahh… finally).

Comfy bed :)

Wide windows with nice view outside
After showering, I went downstairs and met Milena in the kitchen organizing some kitchen supplies so Roman introduced us to her. We were offered what do we want for lunch while she (again) showing us what is where, what we have in the fridge and drawer and I replied, “Actually I don’t know. I have no idea. I’m confused”. (Oh my goodness I must be looked like dumb back then -_-). But thanks to Milena, she saved me from my confusion. She offered to cook scrambled eggs (a.k.a telor dadar ) for us. Meanwhile Roman offered us some chicken sausage as an addition. Another funny moment was when I was trying to wash the dishes manually like I usually do in my house until Roman saw me and told me that I didn’t need to do that because he has dishwasher already. (Goosh, it was so embarrassing >o< Looks like I just dragged out of an isolated cave). So actually all I need to do is just put the dirty dishes into it and put the soap into certain place, turn the power on set the washing mode and close its drawer.
Aaaand, voila! The dish washer does it for us!  \(^O^)/
During lunch, he kept trying to make ourselves feels like home by saying, "You can take whatever you want. Just make yourself comfortable. My house is your house too (this one sounds like spanish phrase. Mi casa es su casa)." (Duh, kalo rumah lo itu rumah gue juga, boleh gue jual dong ni? Mayan nambahin biaya nyusun krispi. LOL! :p)

Alright, that’s all I can tell about my first day in Slovenia. Hope it’s enjoyable (besides understandable definitely :p). Wait for the next stories cause the adventure has just begun!

P.S. Roman’s friend from Ljubljana also arrived that day. They’re a couple named Petra and Tomaž. So, yes! It’s a full house :D
